Penmaenmawr Museum

Penmaenmawr Museum was founded in 2002. It was housed in 4 New York Cottages – one of four refurbished former quarryman’s cottages on the outskirts of the town. Six years later the Museum was taken over by the Penmaenmawr Historical Society.

By 2016 Penmaenmawr Museum had amassed a collection of over 400 objects, including a large photographic archive and a number of local artefacts. The Museum had outgrown the little quarryman’s cottage and we had to store most of our collection off-site. After a lot of research and consultation, the decision was made to move the Museum to the former post office that had recently become available in the centre of Penmaenmawr.

Shortly after we’d moved, we secured a Heritage Lottery Fund Development Grant to develop our plans for the future of the Museum, and we are currently putting together a Delivery Stage bid to HLF to hopefully bring these plans to fruition. These plans will transform the Museum and ensure that Penmaenmawr’s history is recorded and interpreted for generations of residents and visitors to the town.
